ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES OF SURINAME AND STRENGTHENED BILATERAL COOPERATION ON 20 FEBRUARY 2018

On 20 February 2018, His Excellency Datuk Lim Juay Jin attended a roundtable discussion entitled Development Priorities of Suriname and Strengthened Bilateral Cooperation. The roundtable discussion was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Suriname with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The roundtable session was attended by 16 Non-Resident Ambassadors who are accredited to the Republic of Suriname.

 

The session begin with a welcoming remarks by Ambassador Marlon Mohamed Hoesein, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Suriname to Brazil. Followed by opening remarks from Mr. Niky Fabianic, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to Brazil; and Her Excellency Yldiz Pollack-Beighle, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Suriname.

 

During the session, the Director of National Planning Office of Suriname made a presentation on the Objectives and Priorities of the Development Plan 2017-2021. Subsequently a presentation on Utilization and Protection of the Environment: Opportunities for International Cooperation on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Suriname´s Rainforest by the Ambassador at Large for Environment of the Cabinet of the President.

 

The session also discussed on various topics such as technical cooperation in health, education, result in the reversal of capital investment flows to Suriname, technical cooperation and capacity building.
