EXTRACTED NEWS: Minister attends Malaysian National Day celebrations

“THE Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam yesterday celebrated Malaysia’s 58th Independence Day at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong, with the theme ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ (One Heart, One Soul). Present as guests of honour were Minister of Development Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman and his spouse.

The event commenced with the Malaysia and Brunei national anthems, and was followed by a recitation of prayers, the cake-cutting and presentation of a token of appreciation from Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Awang Sahak bin Awang Salleh to the guest of honour.
In his speech, the high commissioner highlighted Malaysia’s commitment towards becoming a fully developed nation under the Vision 2020 programme, in spite of the unprecedented tragedies involving the disappearances of MH370 and MH17, as well as the displacement of 200,000 Malaysians after a disastrous flood that affected the northern eastern states, and the earthquake that hit Sabah in June.
He extended appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for contributing $500,000 for flood relief efforts and also the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei for launching the ‘Humanitarian Fund for Malaysia Flood Victim’ which helped raise $491,127.
His Majesty has paid three state visits this year to Malaysia in conjunction with the 26th Asean Summit and the coronation ceremonies of both His Royal Highness Sultan of Johor and His Royal Highness Sultan of Perak, while the Prime Minister of Malaysia paid a working visit to Brunei in relation to the 19th Annual Leaders Consultation early in August.
Speaking to the Bulletin, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah said, “On behalf of all the men and women from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, we would like to congratulate and wish Malaysians a happy national day.
“I thank the Malaysians who have contributed to the development of Brunei, to all my Malaysian armed forces counterparts for their continuous support and contributions to the professional development of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and providing us the opportunity to serve with them in Mindanao and Lebanon.”
