CANADIAN FOREIGN MINISTER JOINS IN ON MALAYSIAN NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS IN OTTAWA
Malaysia’s National Day reception in Canada’s capital was given a major boost when Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird dropped in on the event.
High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada, Her Excellency Dato’ Hayati Ismail hosted a reception in Ottawa on the occasion of the anniversary of Malaysia’s 55th year of independence at her official residence on 30 August 2012.
The event attended by some 250 guests made up of diplomats, Canadian Government officials; businesspersons and academics also included Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird. The high profile Canadian Minister enjoyed classic Malaysian cuisine satay; roti jala and meehoon at the reception. Congratulating Dato’ Hayati on Malaysia’s national day celebrations, he said, “I always enjoy Malaysian food!”
Dato’ Hayati said such a high-profile attendance from the Canadian administration was very good for Malaysia. She said, “It is quite an honour for Malaysia for the Canadian Foreign Minister himself to make time in his schedule to attend our event. It sends a very positive message to Malaysia.”
She also added that the event was a success because the important elements were working in her favour. “The weather was co-operative for this garden reception! I am also very pleased with the wonderful turnout of my diplomatic colleagues and Canadian friends.”
