Birth/Marriage Certificate
ISSUANCE OF REGISTRATION OF BIRTH
The Embassy of Malaysia in Berne, Switzerland, wishes to confirm that, as per the instructions from the Registration Department of Malaysia, both parents and the newborn child must be present at the Embassy of Malaysia to register. The Consular Section is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except on public holidays).
Please bring the original and photocopy of the following, which are required:
- The father of the child is a Malaysian citizen.
- Registration is made within one year from the date of birth.
- A Swiss birth certificate (an extract birth certificate) is required for the registration of a child. This extract of the Swiss birth certificate is written in multiple languages, including English, and no translation is necessary.
- 2 passport-sized photos of the child.
- Malaysian marriage certificate of parents.
- Resident permit of both parents.
- Passports and ICs of both parents.
- Identification cards of both parents.
(If the mother is not a Malaysian citizen, then her passport will be used as an identity).
- Birth certificates of the father and mother.
- The registration fee is CHF 10.0
Note:
- A copy will be sent to the National Registration Department of Malaysia for record purposes.
- ‘Borang D’ must be signed only by the father. Mother’s signature is not acceptable; Borang D will be given upon registration at the Consular Section.
For late registration
- For registration made beyond the period of one (1) year after the birth, the above requirement still applies. The application will be forwarded to the Registration Department of Malaysia for processing and approval.
- A letter from the father explaining the reason for the delay in registering is required.
REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE (NON-MUSLIM)
The Embassy of Malaysia wishes to inform you that you may register your marriage at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Malaysia in Berne, Switzerland. Both you and your spouse will have to appear in person to have the marriage registered. Under the Marriage and Divorce Act 1976 of Malaysia, Malaysians residing in Switzerland are required to register their marriage at any Malaysian mission under the following conditions:
- At least one of the couples is Malaysian.
- Register the marriage with the Embassy within a period of six (6) months from the date of marriage.
*For your marriage to be legally recognized in Malaysia, you MUST register your marriage with the Embassy.
Kindly provide us with the preferred date and time at which you would like to register your marriage. The regular hours of operation are from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except public holidays. Please contact the Consular Section at +41 031 350 4700 for an appointment and assistance. We will confirm your appointment via email as soon as possible with the Consular Officer.
Applicants MUST be present and bring the following documents:
- International Swiss Marriage Certificate/Extract from Record of Marriage (ICCS), in which no translation is necessary.
- Identity cards of both partners
- Birth certificates of both partners (if a foreign birth certificate is not in English, it must be translated by a professional translation company and certified by the Chancery of the State of the Canton)
- Two (2) photos each, passport size (the background should be white or light blue).
- International passports of both partners
- Swiss residence permit or proof of entry into Switzerland
- Photo of the marriage celebration
- Photocopies of documents (i, ii, iii, v, and vi)
The registration fee is CHF 10.00. A penalty for late registration of CHF 33.00 would be charged for the first year and CHF 17.00 for each subsequent year. Applications without sufficient supporting documents will not be entertained. And all payments must be made in Swiss francs (cash).
