Guidelines for study in Switzerland:

Application procedure:

 

Contact the University of your Choice within the specified time. The pre-application procedure for some universities can be done online.

 

Immigration formalities:

When receive confirmation of acceptance by a Swiss university, please contact the Swiss Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on entry formalities for Switzerland. You will have to show proof that you have adequate financial means to support during your studies.

Residence Permit:

After arrival in Switzerland the student has to apply a residence permit at the police department (foreigner/aliens division). The following documents will be required for the application;

 

- Valid passport, if necessary, with a visa;

- Offered letter from the university;

- Proof of financial support (e.g. bank statement etc.); and

- Address in Switzerland.

 

The residence permit will only be issued if the student financial means are guaranteed. In addition, the student has to renew the residence permit annually. Foreign students are allowed to work up to 15 hours a week as long as the duration of the studies is not prolonged.

 

Health Insurance:

Foreign students who intended to stay in Switzerland for longer than three months must have health insurance coverage in Switzerland or equivalent insurance in their home town.

 

Health insurance is obligatory. However, students from states which provide international mutual aid are exempted from this requirement.

 

Accommodations/Renting Apartments:

 

It is a practice in Switzerland that a three months deposit will be required by most landlords. However, terms and conditions of rental may vary depending on the location, etc. Contracts are signed and please keep the original copy of the contract/protocol. The apartment will be inspected by the landlord before your leaving. Therefore, please make sure the apartment is cleaned. Any damages/broken to the property during tenure will be charged to the tenant and
