MALAYSIA ASSUMES PRESIDENCY OF THE CONFERENCE ON DISARMAMENT

Malaysia assumes the Presidency of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) from 23 to 27 June 2025 (Part II) and 28 July to 15 August 2025 (Part III). This will be the third time for Malaysia to undertake the position of Presidency of the Conference since joining the Conference in 1999. Malaysia’s previous Presidency of the Conference was in 2004 and 2014.

During the first plenary meeting presided by the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the UN, Dato’ Nadzirah Osman, she emphasized that it is crucial now more than ever, for the CD to be functioning and effective in fulfilling its mandate as the single multilateral disarmament negotiating forum of the international community, amidst the backdrop of geopolitical tensions with wars and conflicts affecting various parts of the world. In this connection, she assured delegations that the Malaysia’s presidency will ensure efficient work of the Conference as mandated by the 2025 Decision of Work, to move closer towards fulfilling the mandate of the Conference to negotiate disarmament legally binding treaties.
