YB Minister attended a Breakfast Dialogue with the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution and held a discussion with Jyoti-Mathur Filipp, Executive Secretary of the INC Secretariat, and representatives of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, focusing on the implementation of a fair and effective global plastics agreement.

YB Minister held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Qatar, to explore potential cooperation in environmental and climate-related fields. YB Minister also extended an invitation to his Qatari counterpart to attend the Kuala Lumpur International Summit on Sustainable Future 2025, scheduled for September in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia’s active participation during the HLS reaffirmed its leadership in multilateral environmental agreements and its resolve to address global challenges arising from hazardous chemicals, waste, and plastic pollution.

The BRS Conventions namely the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), aim to protect human health and the environment from harmful chemicals and waste. Malaysia is a Party to the Basel and Rotterdam Conventions and has taken active steps towards aligning its national policies with the objectives of the Stockholm Convention.
