The ASEAN (Malaysia) Movie Night

The ASEAN (Malaysia) Movie Night, 11 November 2024

On 11 November 2024, the Embassy of Malaysia in Beijing collaboration with the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) in Beijing organised the ASEAN (Malaysia) Movie Night” at the ACC.

His Excellency Dato’ Norman Muhamad, Ambassador of Malaysia to China and His Excellency Shi Zhongjun, the Secretary General of ACC, attended the event, along with about 70 attendees, including diplomats from the Embassies of Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and university students from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and China.

His Excellency Dato' Norman Muhamad thanked the ACC for hosting the event and praised the ACC's efforts to promote and strengthen the cooperation among AMS. The Malaysian Embassy will work with the ACC to foster future partnerships and support people-to-people exchanges through such events in the future.

As part of the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges in 2024 and 2025, His Excellency Shi Zhongjun highlighted that ASEAN and China will host and conduct many cultural exchange activities as such. Events such as these have helped to build mutual trust and win-win collaboration between the two sides.

This event is also significant in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations as the "ASEAN (Malaysia) Movie Night" created another dialogue platform for youths from AMS and China in strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding of AMS cultures.

Following the showing of the Malaysian film “Denu” by the renowned Malaysian Director, Producer and Actor, Dato' Ahmad Tamimi Siregar Kamaruddin, students expressed their reflections, highlighting their unique insights into Malaysian traditions and culture. Participants also expressed interest in future programs to learn more about ASEAN countries. At the end of the event, the audience indulge into the Malaysian and Chinese foods.
