His Excellency Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of Guangdong Province’s working visit to Malaysia from 19-21 September 2015
His Excellency Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of the Guangdong Province’s led a delegation to visit Malaysia from 19-21 September 2015. During the 3-day visit, H.E. Zhu visited the State of Malacca, Johor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.
During his stay in Malacca, H.E. Zhu called on TYT Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, the Governor of Malacca and also met with YAB Ir. Hj. Datuk Seri Idris Haron, the Chief Minister of the State of Malacca. H.E. Zhu and delegation were given a state welcoming ceremony upon their arrival in the state followed by tour of the State Assembly building. The delegation was briefed on the state development progress and taken on a tour of key landmark of the city of Malacca. Seven framework of cooperation involving investments between companies from Malaysia and China were concluded namely in property, information technology, medical and halal food. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob and Guangdong Governor Zhu Xiodan. Chief Minister of Malacca, Idris Haron was also present. Later in the evening, the State Government hosted an official dinner for H.E. Zhu and the delegation.
On the second day, the delegation made a short visit to Johor Bahru and was briefed on the integrated development project currently undertaken by Country Garden Ltd., a Guangdong based company. Later in the day, the delegation met with YBhg. Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China and jointly witnessed the signing of MoU on Timber Cooperation between Malaysia and Guangdong at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Tan Sri hosted a dinner for H.E. Zhu and delegation at the same venue.
On third and final day of the visit, H.E. Zhu and the delegation had a courtesy call on YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia at the latter’s office in Putrajaya. Following the courtesy call, the Malacca Chief Minister Idris and the Guangdong Governor H.E. Zhu signed the MoU on the Establishment of Friendly State and Province between Malacca and Guangdong in the presence of Prime Minister Najib.
The MoU signed between Malacca and Guangdong provides for cooperation, among others, in land development including land reclamation, agriculture, connectivity, knowledge-sharing in trade and investment, tourism development of industrial parks which promote green technology and facilitating communication between cultural practitioners and institutions such as museums.
The visit of the Guangdong Governor is the second high level visit from Guangdong following the visit of Mr. Hu Chunhua, Party Secretary of Guangdong to Malaysia in April 2014. The continued high level exchanges between Malaysia and Guangdong reflects the commitment and importance both sides attached to the relations.
