The Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou hosted a Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House on 12 April 2025 at Shangri-la Hotel, Guangzhou.
The event was attended by 250 Malaysians comprising of the business community, Malaysian Students Association of Guangzhou and Fujian, and the Malaysian community working and living in various cities in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Also in attendance were Selangor State Investment Councilor, Trade and Mobility, YB Ng Sze Han and Kedah State Investment Councilor, YB Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah.
The theme of this year’s open house was ‘Hari Raya in the village’. The venue was decorated with various Hari Raya and traditional Malay village elements i.e. a wooden stilt house, ketupat, pelita, wau, and characters wearing traditional attires. A traditional games section with games like congkak and batu seremban was also set up for the guests and their children. Nostalgic Hari Raya songs were played on loop to add to the festive cheer.
Shangri-la’s Malaysian Executive Chef Lim prepared the authentic Malaysian buffet spread which consisted of among others, nasi lemak, briyani, rendang, fish curry and nyonya kuih. The ladies of PERWAKILAN Guangzhou also contributed additional authentic homemade Malaysian Hari Raya dishes such as lemang, ketupat palas, kuih seri muka, popiah sira, and karipap.
