Consul General, Mr. Mohd Shahafeez Shaharis was invited to attend the 2025 BRICS Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Dialogue on 25 September 2025 at Hangzhou International Expo Center. Organized by Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government and Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce, the event was held during the 4^th Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE).

 

The event aimed to promote multilateral cooperation among BRICS Countries and BRICS Partner Countries, especially among the SEZ authorities. Vice Minister of Commerce of China, Mr. Sheng Qiuping and Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee cum Secretary of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee, Mr. Liu Fei addressed the event.

 

The event also saw the signing ceremony of a few agreements including Malaysia Sarawak School Construction Project on RMB100 million investment in Sarawak for the first Alibaba Digital Commerce Industry College outside of China. The agreement was signed between IMSEA Education Group, Sarawak and Hangzhou PUTE Education, and witnessed by the Deputy Premier cum Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government of Sarawak, YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, and the Vice Governor of Zhejiang, Mr. Lu Shan.

 

During the Policy Exchange and Experience Sharing on SEZ session, the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), which was represented by its CEO, YBhg. Dato' Haji Mohd. Noorazam bin Dato' Haji Osman presented about Iskandar Malaysia and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), offering an overview of investment opportunities and prospects for international collaboration.
