On 10 June 2025, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government of Sarawak, YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr. Gong Zheng. 

Both sides discussed potential cooperation between Sarawak and Shanghai particularly in the field of healthcare and renewable energy. 

Also in attendance were Minister for Transport Sarawak, YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin; Deputy Minister For Utility (Sarawak Energy & Petros), YB Dato Ibrahim Baki; Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Mr. Ma Chunlei; and Director General of Shanghai FAO, Ms. Ma Yinghui.
