COVID-19: German Immigration Advisory from the German Federal Foreign Office
EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA, BERLIN
The Embassy was informed that the German Federal Foreign Office is aware of the difficulties faced by many to leave the country before the expiry of their visa-free time, or residence permits.
For the extension of the Schengen visa and residence permits, the foreign residents’ offices (Auslaenderbehoerde) of the federal states are in charge so that a person affected generally has to approach the local foreign residents’ office in charge of their place of residence before the expiry of their visa or residence permit.
However, due to the Corona virus, the capacities of the foreign residents’ offices are currently very limited. It is, therefore, recommended to check the website of the relevant foreign residents’ office to determine the available ways of contacting the office.
Due to the current situation, these ways of contacting can also be limited. It is to be assumed that public traffic and thus the access possibilities for visitors are also limited or suspended entirely. It is explicitly advised against personally visiting the foreign residents’ office without contacting them first.
It is also advised that for Malaysians currently in Germany should use any available possibility to return to their home country /country of residence even if this is not according to their original travel plans and the stay has to be cut short.
