STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON THE SITUATION IN GAZA
All Malaysians condemn in the strongest terms the brutal actions of Israel which led to the deaths of 58 Palestinians who are protesting against the opening of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem on 14 May 2018. In addition to the death of these 58 innocent civilians, more than 2,000 were reportedly injured.
Malaysia is concerned at the potential wider repercussions of this act of state-sponsored terrorism, as it will inflame sentiments leading to further violence not only in the Middle East, but beyond. This would be detrimental to the global effort against terrorism.
The act of brutality by Israel with disproportionate use of force in the name of self defence is a clear violation of international law. Malaysia strongly urges the international community to act immediately to de-escalate the situation and prevent further casualties among civilians. Malaysia calls upon the United Nations to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The perpetrators must be held accountable for this crime against humanity.
