Malaysia established its first resident Embassy in Algiers in April 2001. Algeria opened its embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.


The signing of various agreements and memoranda of understanding(MOUs) could provide the impetus towards the strenghthening of the bilateral cooperation between the countries. Algeria looks forward to learn from Malaysia's experience and expertise in developing its country.


The two countries have been supporting and cooperating at the multilateral level on the various issues of common concern. Malaysia through its Minister of Foreign Affairs led the Malaysian delegation to the Non Aligned Movement Meeting (NAM) in Algiers in May 2014 and lobbied for Malaysia's candidature for the non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council (2015-2016). Algerian Minister of Energy attended the oil and energy related conference in Kuala Lumpur in the middle of 2013.   


Both sides could develop further the potential for business cooperation and trade ties for the mutual benefits.
