MEETING WITH DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SPORTS OF SPAIN
H.E. Ambassador Haznah Md Hashim met with Mr Fernando Molinero Revert, Director General of Sports of Spain, on 3 March 2026 in Madrid to explore avenues for strengthening Malaysia–Spain cooperation in the field of sports. Discussions focused on strategic priority areas including badminton, athletics and football, as well as potential collaboration in Paralympic sports, sports science, coaching exchanges and institutional linkages between higher education institutions. Spain shared insights into its integrated high-performance ecosystem, combining centralised infrastructure, technical expertise and science-based athlete development. Following the meeting, H.E. Ambassador was accorded a visit to the High Council for Sports (Consejo Superior de Deportes), Spain’s national training hub for elite athletes. The delegation also had the opportunity to meet Olympic gold medallist Carolina Marín and other Spanish Olympians, gaining first-hand exposure to Spain’s structured approach to athlete development. The engagement reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and sectoral cooperation with Spain, including in youth and sports development.
