Brief History
Malaysia enjoys warm and cordial relations with Finland. Bilateral relations between Malaysia and Finland have grown tremendously over a short period with positive interactions since the establishment of Finland’s Consulate in 1963. Finland established its resident Embassy in Kuala Lumpur at the level of Charge d’ Affaires in 1980 and was upgraded to Ambassadorial level in 1988, whereas Malaysia only established its resident mission at the Ambassadorial level in Helsinki on 2 November 2004. Prior to this, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Sweden was concurrently accredited to Finland.
Political ties at both bilateral and multilateral levels have remained good. Both countries have a progressive bilateral relations with positive developments seen in the official visits, trade and investment inflows into Malaysia, cooperation in tourism related promotional activities as well as in the field of education and bio-technology.
