250822: The ladies from Yadua village of Cuvu (who were among the participants in March 2022) are back for an extended 7-day food diversification project led by Chef Elda. This ongoing program at Rumah Malaysia (the High Commissioner’s Residence) is the continuation of our March 2022 food diplomacy program for the villages to increase their income. Earlier in March, the participants focused on preparing a variety of Malaysian ‘kuih’ (bite-sized snack or dessert foods). In this current iteration, it has been expanded to provide exposure on Malaysian cuisine and banquet setup. Even early on during the second day of the program, the participants hailing from Yadua village and other parts of Fiji successfully prepared a variety of Malaysian dishes that proved to be a hit during the MTCP - Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme Alumni Appreciation Lunch hosted by H.E. High Commissioner. Since their participation in MTCP courses, a good number of the alumni had returned to Malaysia to take their vacations. Many of them said it was the food that brought them back to Malaysia. The sambal udang (prawn with chilli based paste), egg with chilli based paste, chicken rendang (chicken slow cooked and braised in a coconut milk seasoned with a herb and spice mixture), stir friend vegetables, fried kway teow (fried flat rice noodles), and 'kuih' provided the opportunity for the MTCP alumni to once again savour the food they’ve grown to know and love in Malaysia.
