 The launch of the OECD report “Urban Green Growth in Dynamic Asia” was held at the OECD Conference Centre – CC 5 on 10 November 2016.


In his opening remarks, Douglas Frantz, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD stressed the importance of getting on top of economic growth with the right policies for the environment to confront the difficulties in urban green growth. Birthed out of the OECD’s vision for inclusive growth is the Inclusive Growth in Cities Campaign. Central to this campaign is the creation of a network of mayors to promote Inclusive Growth. The OECD is inviting mayors from around the world to become Inclusive Growth Champions as well as discuss new solutions and look at best practices in an effort to help deal with rapid urbanization and the role of cities promote sustainable development through urban green growth through, among others, policies tailored to the local context. This can be useful for regions where metropolitans are growing rapidly. The meeting is expected to be held in Paris, France on 21 November 2016.


During the launch, Dr. Tadashi MATSUMOTO made a presentation of the “Urban Green Growth in Dynamic Asia” Report. This was followed by remarks from countries covered in the case studies i.e. H.E. Dato’ Ibrahim Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia to France; Mme. Sirichada Thongtan, Conseiller, Embassy of Thailand; Mr. Agung Kurniadi, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Indonesia; Mme. Evelyn Nacario-Castro, Executive Director of Eduardo Abolitiz Development Studies Center, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Philippines; and Dr. Hoang Vinh Hung, Head of Urban Development Management Division, Urban Development Agency, Ministry of Construction, Viet Nam. Noting there is an appetite for collaboration in future lines of work, the OECD expressed that they are very much happy to satisfy it.
