VISIT BY THE ASEAN COMMITTEE IN PARIS TO LYON, RHÔNE ALPES-AUVERGE, FRANCE, 30 NOVEMBER 2016
The ASEAN-Committee in Paris (ACP) organised a study visit to Lyon on 30 November 2016. This visit was a collaboration between the ACP and the Quai d’Orsay (the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development). The visit was meant to explore what Lyon and the surrounding region could offer to ASEAN particularly on the strengths of the region which focusses on life sciences, clean technologies and digital content.
The first ACP programme of the day started with a visit to Pollutec 2016 where we linked up with Mr. Phillipe Varin, the Special Representative for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development for ASEAN and Mr. Gérard Wolf, Chairman of the Sustainable Cities Task Force of MEDEF International. Pollutec is gaining significance as an exposition that brings together professionals from around the world. Discussions were had on innovative solutions that reduces the impact of all human activities on the environment. At Pollutec, the ACP also met with Mr. Laurent Wauquiez, President of the Region Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, and Mr. Eric Fournier, Vice President responsible for the Environment along with representatives of French large enterprises and SMEs offering highly innovative green urban solutions particularly on waste management.
After the tour of Pollutec, the ACP visited the Lyon Confluence. There a briefing was provided on the success story of one of the many transformation projects in the city. The highlighted project was the transformation of a heavily polluted industrial land to a modern and environmentally friendly residential area. The ACP delegation then met with the Mayor of Lyon and President of Lyon Metropole Mr Gérard Collomb. They gave a comprehensive briefing on their strategies to adopt smart solutions in order to improve the lives of its residents and stimulate economic growth in the city. The visit allowed the ACP to build and strengthen links between Lyon as well as the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region. Areas of future collaboration for mutual benefit were also explored.
