On 27 July 2019, embassies from the ten ASEAN countries in Paris celebrated the annual ASEAN Family Day at Château Chanorier in Croissy sur Seine, Ile de France. The ASEAN Family Day was participated by all the staff members of the embassies and their families. The event was joined by Mr. Jean-Roger Davin, Mayor of Croissy sur Seine, Ms. Katherine Noël, First Deputy Mayor in charge of Chanorier and Trade, and Mr. Etienne Cattier, Deputy Mayor in charge of Urbanism.

The day begin with short speeches by the host, H.E. Ambassador Sarun Charoensuwan of Thailand; H.E. Ambassador Kyaw Zeya of Myanmar as the Chair of ASEAN Committee in Paris, and the Mayor of Croissy sur Seine. Despite the slight drizzle, spirits were high on that Saturday morning.

There was a strong sense of ASEAN camaraderie as dishes from each country were shared among all. Malaysia’s Nasi Lemak, however, stole the limelight. While other rice based dishes were also served by other ASEAN countries, the Nasi Lemak reigned supreme – with throngs of people dashing towards Malaysia’s tent. Other than the Nasi Lemak, Malaysia’s tent also served pulut kuning, rendang and kuih keria on that day.

The ASEAN Ambassadors tried their hands at pétanque while the rest competed in sepak takraw and the sack race. The kids were not left out as they participated in musical chairs and many other fun activities. The lucky draw or tombola, was perhaps the most popular event during the day – as many anticipated with baited breath for their numbers to be drawn.

The day came to an end with a short speech by the host, thanking the ASEAN large family in Paris for their continuous effort in fostering the spirit of amity and brotherhood. To this, the Embassy of Malaysia wishes to congratulate the Embassy of Thailand for a superb feat in hosting the ASEAN Family Day.
