INTER-SESSIONAL STEERING GROUP MEETING OF THE SOUTHEAST ASIA REGIONAL PROGRAMME, AT THE OECD 23 SEPTEMBER 2019
The Inter-Sessional Steering Group Meeting of the Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) was held at the OECD on 23 September 2019. Overall, the meeting provided plenty of insights and a glimpse of what is in the pipeline for Southeast Asia. Participants were engaged, eager to contribute, and presented lots of useful views.
The purpose of the meeting is to hold in-depth discussions on how SEARP can strengthen the enhancement of ASEAN connectivity. At this occasion, Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo, the Deputy-Secretary General of ASEAN responsible for the Economic Pillar spoke on the challenges and opportunities of ASEAN connectivity policies. Participants also exchanged their views on the next Southeast Asia Regional Forum in Thailand under the proposed theme of “Human Capital Development.”
Vivid discussions were had on technology divide and connectivity with possible policy ramifications, work areas to dive in, as well as the sustainability of the current connectivity projects. Accountability involved in implementing the projects were also discussed. Another important function of the meeting is the ability to meet and network with fellow delegates at the sidelines, where delegates can continue informal discussions.
