Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits which are scheduled to be held from 12 to 15 November 2020 via video conference.
YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), as well as senior government officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Wisma Putra, and MITI.
The Summit is the second and final ASEAN Summit to be hosted by Viet Nam as Chair of ASEAN for 2020, with the theme “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN”.
During the 37th ASEAN Summit, Leaders are expected to discuss and exchange views on the future direction of ASEAN and its community building efforts, the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, ASEAN key initiatives on COVID-19 response as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
The ASEAN Leaders will also participate in the ASEAN Plus One Summits with Leaders from Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea (ROK) and United States, as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN).
YAB Prime Minister will also be participating in the ASEAN Plus Three Summit, East Asia Summit (EAS), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit, ASEAN+3 Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of East Asia Business Council (EABC) Leaders will be witnessing the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
During this Summit, ASEAN will also be releasing the Mid-term Review of ASEAN Community Vision 2025, ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework as well as the launching of the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies for Public Health Emergencies. The Summit will also officially announce the establishment of the ASEAN Regional Centre on Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases.
As one of the founding members of ASEAN that was established in 1967, Malaysia’s participation in the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits reflects its full and continuous commitment to ASEAN which has contributed to peace, stability and prosperity to the region.
