ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ RETREAT

IN NHA TRANG, VIETNAM ON 15-17 JANUARY 2020

 

YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs will be leading the Malaysian delegation to Vietnam to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Nha Trang, Vietnam on 15-17 January 2020. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Vietnam helms the Chairmanship of ASEAN this year with the theme “Cohesive and Responsive”.The AMM Retreat in Nha Trang is the first scheduled meeting for ASEAN Member States, chaired by H.E. Mr. Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Vietnam, with the participation of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, the Secretary-General of ASEAN as well as Senior Officials from all ASEAN Member States. The Retreat will be preceded by the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on 16 January 2020.

 

Among the issues that will be discussed by the Foreign Ministers are updates on the implementation of the decisions reached during the 34th and 35th ASEAN Summits held under the chairmanship of Thailand in 2019, as well as practical initiatives to take forward the agenda and key priorities of Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern as well as means to enhance ASEAN’s relations with its Dialogue Partners.

 

As ASEAN Member States set sights towards achieving ASEAN Community Vision 2025, Malaysia fully supports and is committed to making substantive progress under Vietnam’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020.
