EARTHQUAKE IN JHELUM, PAKISTAN

 

The Ministry has been monitoring the situation following the earthquake at Jhelum in Punjab, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Jhelum is located about 100 km southeast of Islamabad, capital of Pakistan. The other nearby areas affected include Mirpur, Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

 

The earthquake has reportedly claimed many lives and caused injuries to many other people in the affected areas. The Ministry wishes to convey the sympathies and condolences to the Government and the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in particular to those who have been directly affected. Malaysia stands in solidarity with Pakistan during this challenging time. 

 

The Ministry has been in contact with the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad. There has been no report of any Malaysians affected by the earthquake.

 

Malaysians in the affected areas are accordingly advised to give utmost priority to their safety and well-being, and follow instructions issued by the local authorities.
