EXCHANGE OF CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES TO COMMEMORATE THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
Today, 23 February 2020, marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Republic of Korea.
In conjunction with the auspicious day, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah and His Excellency President Moon Jae-in exchanged congratulatory messages, reflecting the deep and longstanding friendship that has been developed and nurtured by the two countries over the course of six decades.
The Honourable Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad and His Excellency Chung Sye-Kyun also had an exchange of letters, in which both leaders reaffirm commitment to consolidating further the existing bilateral relations by strengthening high-level contacts, enhancing economic and technological cooperation, as well as working continuously towards elevating Malaysia – Republic of Korea relations to a strategic partnership.
The exchange of congratulatory messages also took place between The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah and Her Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha. Both Ministers of Foreign Affairs will step up political coordination at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and foster the convergence of regional policies for shared prosperity.
Over the past 60 years, the relations between Malaysia and Republic of Korea have been strong and solid. The number of total trade was USD17.51 billion in 2019 and the number of tourists’ arrival from Republic of Korea to Malaysia increased to 508,080 during the same corresponding period. Bilateral relations between Malaysia and Republic of Korea is expected to further flourish as both sides continue to implement the consensus laid out by the leaders to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote regional peace and development.
