FLOOD SITUATION IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES

FLOOD SITUATION IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been monitoring the flood situation that is currently affecting a number of African countries including Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Tanzania. The flood, due to October torrential rain, has claimed many lives and displaced a great number of people in these countries.

Malaysia conveys its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the governments and peoples of the affected countries, and stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time.

Malaysia joins others in calling upon members of the international community to extend humanitarian assistance in response to this natural disaster. We wish to commend the relief efforts that are already being undertaken in this regard.

Malaysia will be contributing USD20,000 to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) for this purpose. It is hoped that the contribution would help in the recovery efforts in the affected countries.
