HANDOVER OF MEDICAL EQUIPTMENT FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE
PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Honourable Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, received on behalf of the Government of Malaysia a consignment of COVID-19 medical equipment from the Government of the People’s Republic of China in a brief ceremony on 28 March 2020 at Wisma Putra, Putrajaya.
The consignment consisting of 100,008 units of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Nucleic Acid Diagnostic Kit (PCR-Fluorescence Probing) test kits, 100,000 pieces of N95 face masks, 500,000 pieces of surgical masks, 50,000 units of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and 200 units of ventilators was handed over by His Excellency Bai Tian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia.
Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin expressed Malaysia’s deep appreciation for the invaluable support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China which clearly reflects the strong partnership between the two countries. According to Ambassador Bai Tian, the consignment is a gift to Malaysia in recognition of the very close relations and friendship between his country and Malaysia, and a gesture of goodwill in return for the valuable assistance that Malaysia had extended during the initial phase of COVID-19 in China.
The consignment is part of much larger collaboration between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China in the common fight against COVID-19 pandemic since the formation of the new Malaysian Government. Kuala Lumpur and Beijing have also expressed commitment to enhancing efforts in this fight, including mitigating impacts of COVID-19, through various platforms such as ASEAN and international organizations.
