LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF FOREIGN POLICY FRAMEWORK 7 DECEMBER 2021
YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister, had officially launched the Foreign Policy Framework titled “Focus in Continuity: A Framework for Malaysia’s Foreign Policy in a Post-Pandemic World” at Le Méridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, this afternoon.
Also in attendance were YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Foreign Minister, YB Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Deputy Foreign Minister, Members of Parliament (MPs) including members of the Special Select Committee on International Affairs, Secretary-General and the top management of Wisma Putra, Secretaries-General of Ministries, Foreign Heads of Mission to Malaysia, members of the Consultative Council on Foreign Policy (CCFP), and representatives from the civil society and student leaders.
This Framework reflects the aspirations of the Keluarga Malaysia administration in ensuring that existing foreign policy implementation is further enhanced as a response to the ever-changing global developments and realities, especially those arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, there has been a reinvigorated approach and focus on the following issues:
i. Revitalise Malaysia’s Links to the Global Economy;
ii. Health Diplomacy;
iii. Digital Economy;
iv. Cybersecurity;
v. Cultural Diplomacy;
vi. Peaceful Coexistence;
vii. Upholding Multilateralism; and
viii. Sustainable Development Goals 2030 – SDGs.
This Framework was formulated through extensive cooperation and collaboration with numerous entities, including Ministries / Government Agencies, members of CCFP, MPs, as well as members of the academia, entrepreneurs, and civil society. This is in line with the aspirations and practice of YB Foreign Minister in adopting an open and consultative (syura) approach throughout the process of formulating and implementing Malaysia’s foreign policy.
