LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

AND

EXCHANGE OF MOUs BETWEEN INSTITUTE OF DIPLOMACY AND FOREIGN RELATIONS AND UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA, UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA SARAWAK AND UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA SABAH

The Launching Ceremony of Knowledge Management and Exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations and University of Malaya (UM), University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Putrajaya on 14 February 2020. The Honourable Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia launched the event.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs started the implementation of Knowledge Management in July 2019 with the intention to promote knowledge acquisition and sharing which later will lead to the production of new, critical and useful knowledge to officers and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative is a practical approach to ensure tacit and explicit knowledge of former diplomats and officials are imparted to the serving officials of the Ministry. Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) has been assigned to implement this initiative.

IDFR has established a portal exclusively designed for the initiative of Knowledge Management in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The process of equipping this portal with relevant documents related to diplomacy and foreign affairs such as theses, dissertations and articles is an on-going process.

The collaborations between IDFR and three public universities namely UM, UMS, and UNIMAS among others, would open another gate in expanding the scope of knowledge sharing in the field of diplomacy and foreign relations.

The MoUs between IDFR and said universities will also encourage and strengthen cooperation in the fields of academic, research and culture. Cooperation in the academic field encompasses institutional exchanges between faculty and staff from the universities and IDFR; acceptance of undergraduate and graduate students for research; organisation of intellectual forums; exchange of information pertaining to developments in teaching and learning; and sharing of documents, theses, dissertations, and/or academic articles related to diplomacy and foreign relations.

It is hoped that, through active exchange or sharing of information, it would encourage IDFR and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to perform more efficiently in the process of implementing Knowledge Management in the Ministry.
