MALAYSIA EXPELLED DIPLOMATS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

MALAYSIA EXPELLED DIPLOMATS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Malaysia has today expelled all diplomats of the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Kuala Lumpur

in keeping with the decision of the Government of Malaysia which was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 March 2021. The

expulsion has been carried out in conformity with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961.

The Government of Malaysia has to resort to taking this action in response to the DPRK’s 19 March 2021 unilateral and utterly

irresponsible decision to sever diplomatic ties with Malaysia.

The action by the Government of Malaysia has become a necessity in order to protect Malaysia’s sovereignty and safeguard our national interest.

This action is a reminder that Malaysia shall never tolerate any attempt to meddle in our internal affairs and judiciary, disrespect our

governance system, and constantly create unnecessary tensions in defiance of the rules-based international order.
