MALAYSIA RE-ELECTED FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE UNITED NATIONS
COMMISSION ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW (UNCITRAL)
FOR THE TERM 2025-2031
Malaysia has been successfully re-elected to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), for the six-year term of 2025-2031 at the election held during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 20 November 2024.
Malaysia has successfully secured one of the eight seats allocated for the Asia Pacific Group, receiving the highest number of votes with a total of 179 from 183 countries.
UNCITRAL plays a crucial role in developing cross-border legal framework to facilitate international trade and investment. It promotes the progressive harmonisation and modernisation of international trade law.
Malaysia has been a member of UNCITRAL for three consecutive terms for the periods 2007-2013, 2013-2019, and 2019-2025.
Malaysia remains steadfast in supporting the work of UNCITRAL and will continue to actively participate, as well as contribute to the strengthening of the role of the institution.
