OFFICIAL VISIT OF PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA
YAB TUN DR. MAHATHIR BIN MOHAMAD
TO THE KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA
2 – 4 SEPTEMBER 2019
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, will be undertaking his first Official Visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 2 to 4 September 2019 since assuming office as the 7th Prime Minister. His last official visit to Cambodia was in 1994.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by YABhg. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, and the Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking, will be in the official delegation.
YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to hold meetings with His Excellency Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia. The leaders will discuss initiatives to strengthen further Malaysia-Cambodia bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest to the two countries.
The two leaders will witness signing of the Agreement on the Elimination of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance, and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism.
YAB Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdey Say Chhum.
YAB Prime Minister will also hold open dialogue with students and academia at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, in addition to two separate meetings with the Malaysian community and Malaysian captains of industry in Phnom Penh.
In 2018, Malaysia’s total trade with Cambodia was valued at USD558.5 million, an increase of 22.6% from that of 2017. Malaysia is currently the 4th largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) for Cambodia, with a total of USD 2.73 billion.
