OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF RURAL

AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO CAMBODIA

13–15 OCTOBER 2025

 

YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, will undertake his first Official Visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from 13 to 15 October 2025.

During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister will attend and deliver a Ministerial Statement at the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) and the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER), as well as hold meetings with the Cambodian leadership.

As part of the Official Visit, YAB Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to pay Courtesy Calls on the President of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister of Cambodia. In addition, YAB Deputy Prime Minister will have a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, H.E. Neth Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and meet with Cambodian senior ministers and foreign delegations attending the 13th AMMDM and 14th COP-AADMER.

This official visit is expected to further strengthen Malaysia–Cambodia bilateral relations through the strengthening of existing cooperation, particularly in areas such as halal, telecommunications, and disaster management. Bilateral trade remains robust, with an average annual growth of 15% since 2021, reaching USD 855.6 million in 2024.

Between January and August 2025, bilateral trade surged by 45.1%, reaching USD 749.9 million, with exports to Cambodia at USD 616.8 million and imports of USD 133.1 million.

Malaysia is Cambodia’s third-largest foreign investor, after China and the Republic of Korea, with total cumulative investments of USD 3.2 billion across 162 registered projects. Malaysian investments are concentrated in the services, manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, banking, and infrastructure development.
