OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

DATO’ SERI UTAMA HAJI MOHAMAD BIN HAJI HASAN

TO THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE

27-28 MAY 2024

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan was in Singapore from 27 to 28 May 2024, for his first official visit to the Republic as Foreign Minister of Malaysia.

Besides meeting with his counterpart, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, the Foreign Minister had an audience with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and paid courtesy calls on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

During these exchanges, both sides reviewed the progress of Malaysia-Singapore bilateral relations and reiterated their commitment to work closely in preparation for the Annual Leaders’ Retreat, scheduled for the end of the year in Malaysia. Views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including on Myanmar, the South China Sea and Palestine were also exchanged.

Singapore also gave its assurances to support Malaysia during the latter’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.

The visit underscores both neighbouring countries' shared commitment to bolstering long-standing ties and multifaceted cooperation. In 2023, Malaysia and Singapore were each other’s second-largest global trading partners. Singapore was also Malaysia’s largest trading partner among ASEAN countries with total trade valued at RM363.13 billion (USD79.60 billion).
