OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE ARAB REPUBLIC OF EGYPT TO MALAYSIA 14-16 MARCH 2022

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah will host the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, His Excellency Sameh Hassan Shoukry, in conjunction with his inaugural visit to Malaysia on 14-16 March 2022.

 

During the visit, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, The Most Honourable Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will receive a courtesy call by His Excellency Sameh Shoukry on 14 March 2022. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will deliver an invitation from His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the Honourable Prime Minister to attend the 27th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022.

 

The Honourable Dato’ Sri Saifuddin and His Excellency Sameh Shoukry will hold a bilateral meeting to advance further the longstanding and multifaceted ties between Malaysia and Egypt. Both Foreign Ministers will also review regional and international developments of interest to the two countries.

 

His Excellency Sameh Shoukry is also scheduled to hold talks with the Senior Minister of Defence, The Honourable Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, the Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, The Honourable Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and the Minister of Environment and Water, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Tuan Man Tuan Ibrahim.

 

The visit by His Excellency Sameh Shoukry will build on the momentum of prevailing robust ties, and reflect mutual resolve to elevate partnership to a higher plane. It will also provide an opportunity for him to share Egypt’s vision and objectives during her presidency of COP27.

 

Egypt is Malaysia’s largest trading partner in north Africa. In 2021, Malaysia-Egypt total trade was valued at RM3.8 billion (USD904.1 million), a substantial increase of 84.5 percent, compared to the recorded value in 2020.

 

The visit will be undertaken in full compliance with the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) put in place by the authorities of Malaysia.
