The Premier of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Li Qiang will undertake an Official Visit to Malaysia from 18 to 20 June 2024. This will be his first visit to Malaysia as the Premier of the People’s Republic of China. His visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, following the signing of the Joint Communiqué between Tun Abdul Razak and His Excellency Chou En Lai on 31 May 1974.
During the visit, Premier Li will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral matters as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Both leaders will also witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding and agreements in various areas of cooperation including in digital economy, green development, tourism, housing and urban development, higher education, science and technology, as well as on the export of agri-commodities to China. They will also attend a dinner in celebration of the 50 years’ celebration.
Premier Li will also have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
Both leaders will also attend the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) ground breaking ceremony in Gombak as well as a business luncheon with the business community from both countries.
In 2023, China remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for fifteen consecutive years since 2009, with a total trade of RM450.84 billion (USD98.90 billion). Malaysia’s ties with China has grown from strength to strength since the elevation of bilateral relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013.
