YAB TUN DR. MAHATHIR BIN MOHAMAD, PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

TO TURKMENISTAN, 26 – 28 OCTOBER 2019

 

YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia will undertake an Official Visit to Turkmenistan from 26-28 October 2019. The visit is at the invitation of His Excellency Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan who has undertaken Official Visits to Malaysia in December 2011 and November 2016.

 

The visit signifies the importance Malaysia attaches to its relations with Turkmenistan. While in Ashgabat, YAB Prime Minister will be hosted by His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan for the Official Welcoming Ceremony in the morning of 28 October 2019 at the Oguzkhan Palace. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a meeting to take stock of the state of the existing bilateral relations and identify new areas for future collaboration. Both leaders will also exchange views on a range of regional and global issues of common concern.

 

Malaysia and Turkmenistan established the diplomatic relations in 1992. The two countries continue to take concrete steps to elevate the mutually beneficial cooperation. Malaysia is currently ranked as Turkmenistan’s biggest source of accumulated foreign investment, worth more than USD10.0 billion (RM42.0 billion). Turkmenistan is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner amongst the Central Asian countries with total bilateral trade volume of USD11.8 million (RM48.5 million) in 2018.
