PRESS RELEASE : ASIA-EUROPE MEETING (ASEM) DAY, 1 MARCH 2019

ASIA-EUROPE MEETING (ASEM) DAY, 1 MARCH 2019

Today, 1 March 2019 marks the 23rd Anniversary of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process. Malaysia is proud to stand with all ASEM Member Partners in the celebration of this ASEM Day.

Since its inception in 1996, ASEM has continued to achieve milestones by forging closer cooperation and integration between Asia and Europe, as well as to serve as a unique platform for dialogues on the three pillars – political, economic and socio-cultural – based on the principles of equal partnership, mutual respect and shared benefits.

At the 12th ASEM Summit in Brussels, Belgium last year, Malaysia reiterated that Asia and Europe must continue to work together in equal partnership towards developing the economies and connecting the peoples of these two regions. Malaysia values the distinctive ASEM process to take advantage of the huge potential of both Asia and Europe’s strengths and competitiveness in building a more stable and prosperous future. Furthermore, the ASEM process is important to Malaysia as a building block for effective multilateralism and the rules-based international order.

Malaysia is confident that ASEM will continue to be a platform for the dynamic exchange of ideas to address present and future global challenges, while creating and maintaining mutually beneficial linkages. Malaysia reiterates its commitment to, and will continue to participate actively in the ASEM process for the continued betterment of Asia-Europe relations.
