WORKING VISIT OF
THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

TO GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
14 – 16 MAY 2019
Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 6th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction Conference (GPDRR 2019) in Geneva, Switzerland, from 14 to 16 May 2019.
The Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by senior officials from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the Natural Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in Geneva. This is the first visit by the Deputy Prime Minister to Switzerland.
The Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s National Statement at the GPDRR 2019 during the Plenary Segment on 15 May 2019. The Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the GPDRR 2019 Special Session on “Women Leadership in DRR” and participate in the Ministerial Roundtable on “Risk-informed investment and economics of DRR” on 16 May 2019.
The overall theme for GPDRR 2019 is "Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies", focuses on the role of investment in better disaster management and sustainable development.
While in Geneva, the Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with United Nations High Commisioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Disaster Risk Reduction, Mami Mizutori. At the margins of GPDRR 2019, the Deputy Prime Minister will also have a bilateral meeting with the Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit the Geneva Islamic Cultural Foundation (Fondation Culturelle Islamique de Genève) and meet Malaysian community in Geneva at a dinner iftar.
