Held in a BRICS Plus format, the Dialogue took place at the margins of the 14th BRICS Summit hosted by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China. Under the theme “Foster a Global Development Partnership for the New Era to Jointly Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the Leaders deliberated on the importance of international solidarity and effective cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as in promoting global recovery, global governance reform and inclusive global partnership for development.
YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to achieving the SDGs, which have already been embedded in various government policies including the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK12). YAB Prime Minister also highlighted Malaysia’s efforts to localize the SDGs through, among others, the establishment of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on SDGs (APPGM-SDG) and MySDG Foundation, as well as promotion of more SDG-impact investments by increasing access to green finance and market creation.
In the context of enhancing international cooperation and ensuring no one is left behind, YAB Prime Minister put forward three specific proposals. They relate to (i) strengthening international development architecture; (ii) strengthening multilateral system; and (iii) realising the commitment to combat the environmental and climate crises.
The participation of YAB Prime Minister at the High-Level Dialogue on Global Development reflects Malaysia’s commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to promoting effective international cooperation to assist other developing countries in achieving the SDGs.
