SPECIAL ASEAN SUMMIT AND
SPECIAL ASEAN PLUS THREE SUMMIT ON COVID-19 VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE

 

YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Prime Minister of Malaysia, will be participating at the Special ASEAN Summit on COVID-19 via video conference in the morning of 14 April 2020. The Summit will be participated by all Leaders of ASEAN Member States and to be chaired by H.E Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam who is also the current Chair of ASEAN. Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN, will also participate in the video conference.

 

The Summit will discuss ASEAN’s collective efforts in countering the COVID-19 pandemic and its preparation in facing the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic that have affected several thousand of ASEAN citizens. The Summit is expected to adopt the Declaration of the Special ASEAN Summit on COVID-19.

 

Later in the afternoon, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will participate at the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 also via video conference. The Summit will be attended by all Leaders of ASEAN Member States and the Plus Three Countries namely the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN, and Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), will also participate in the video conference.

 

During the Summit, the Leaders of ASEAN Member States and Plus Three countries will exchange views and explore ways and means of cooperation in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. The Summit is expected to adopt the Joint Statement of the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19.
