SITUATION IN SOUTH SUDAN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi, Kenya, is closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation in South Sudan following the ongoing armed conflict and escalating security threats in the country.

The High Commission’s records show that 55 Malaysian civilians are currently in South Sudan. Additionally, 18 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers are serving with the United Nations Police (UNPOL) mission in the country, and all of them are reported to be safe. The High Commission is also in communication with UNPOL to ensure the continued safety and well-being of the PDRM officers. All deployments and assignments of UNPOL personnel in South Sudan will continue to be under the coordination of UNPOL.

Considering the worsening situation in South Sudan and as a precautionary measure, the Ministry advises all Malaysians living in South Sudan to remain vigilant and give utmost attention to their safety and security. They may also consider relocating to safer places or voluntarily returning to Malaysia, should they feel their safety and security are at risk.

The Ministry also advises Malaysians to defer travel to South Sudan due to the volatile situation in the country.

All Malaysian citizens in South Sudan are urged to register their presence with the High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi, Kenya, to ensure they receive timely updates and assistance. Malaysians are also advised to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to the instructions of local authorities.
