STATE VISIT BY HIS MAJESTY SULTAN IBRAHIM, KING OF MALAYSIA TO BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 13 - 15 OCTOBER 2024
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia will undertake a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam from 13 to 15 October 2024. This will be His Majesty's inaugural State Visit to Brunei Darussalam since ascending the throne on 31 January 2024.
Their Majesties will be accompanied by His Highness Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong of Johor; Minister of Higher Education, YB Senator Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abd Kadir; Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zain; and officials from Istana Negara and relevant ministries and agencies.
During the State Visit, Their Majesties will be accorded a State Welcoming Ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman, followed by an audience with His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam. His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will also host a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah are also scheduled to hold an engagement session with the Malaysian community in Bandar Seri Begawan. During the visit, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah is also scheduled to visit Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), where Her Majesty will inaugurate the Malaysia Publication Corner, which showcases joint research publications between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
This State Visit will further strengthen the close and special relationship between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, underpinned by the Malay sultanate institution, religion, culture, and family ties. It is also significant as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
In 2023, Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia's 30th largest trading partner and 6 th largest trading partner among ASEAN member countries, with a total trade of RM9.31 billion (USD2.04 billion). From January to July 2024, the total trade between the two countries was RM5.48 billion (USD1.16 billion).
