THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE QUESTION OF PALESTINE,
“SOUTHEAST ASIAN SUPPORT
FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE”
28-29 FEBRUARY 2020, KUALA LUMPUR
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations (UN) Committee for the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) in partnership with the Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) would be convening the International Conference on the Question of Palestine with the theme “Southeast Asian Support for the Rights of the Palestinian People” from 28 to 29 February 2020 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
YAB Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, interim Prime Minister of Malaysia is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the opening session of the Conference in the afternoon of Friday, 28 February 2020. The Conference is expected to be attended by participants comprising CEIRPP members1 and observers2 (Permanent Representatives of respective countries to the UN in New York), representatives of UN Member States, representatives of intergovernmental organisations such as ASEAN and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), among others; members of the diplomatic corps, civil society organisations, as well as eminent personalities, parliamentarians, and academicians. The Conference is open to members of the public and media.
The overarching theme of the Conference is to bring together support from government and civil societies in Southeast Asia for the realisation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. The Conference also aims to address the difficulties of life for Palestinians under Israeli illegal occupation and emphasise the need for a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian Question including the realization of a two-State solution, in accordance with the UN Charter as well as relevant UN resolutions and international law.
The Conference would feature speakers with extensive experience comprising legal and Middle East experts, as well as UN agency representatives, members of civil society from Malaysia and around Southeast Asia, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Australia and the United Kingdom.
The Palestinian Question is among the most important issues advocated by Malaysia and as co-host of the Conference, it provides the opportunity among others, to showcase Malaysia’s steadfast support in the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinians. As we approach the 75th anniversary of the United Nations this year, Malaysia would continue to play an active role at the UN, including through its membership in CEIRPP in seeking a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
