WORKING VISIT OF UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS HER EXCELLENCY MICHELLE BACHELET TO MALAYSIA

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, will undertake a Working Visit to Malaysia from 3 to 6 October 2019. The visit is at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Saifuddin bin Abdullah, during their meeting at the sidelines of the Human Rights Council on 26 February 2019 in Geneva.

 

Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet’s visit marks a historic milestone as she is the first High Commissioner to visit Malaysia. The visit signifies the recognition of Malaysia’s achievements and efforts in improving the human rights standards of the country since the change of government in May 2018. Malaysia is also her first destination in Southeast Asia since taking office in September 2018.

 

During the visit, the High Commissioner will call on YAB Prime Minister, YB Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religion), YB Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (National Unity and Social Wellbeing) and YB Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development. In addition, the High Commissioner will also be meeting representatives from the National Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) and civil society organizations and will visit one of the Alternative Learning Centres (ALCs) in Kajang, Selangor.
