TO SPAIN TO ATTEND

THE 14TH ASIA-EUROPE MEETING (ASEM) FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING,

MADRID, 15-16 DECEMBER 2019

 

YB Datuk Wira Marzuki Hj. Yahya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 14th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting which will be held in Madrid, Spain on 15-16 December 2019.

 

With the theme “Asia and Europe: Together for Effective Multilateralism”, the meeting is expected to deliberate on regional issues of mutual concern, as well as explore on ways to strengthen ASEM as an effective multilateral platform in maintaining peace and prosperity in the Asian and European regions.

 

YB Deputy Foreign Minister is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s national statement at the First Plenary Session with the theme “Revitalising the Multilateral System – Advancing the ASEM Partnership on Global Issues” as well as participating in the Retreat Session to discuss regional and international issues.

 

The 14th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is expected to adopt the Chair’s Statement as the outcome document of the meeting. The Chair’s Statement, among others, outlines the commitment and cooperation among ASEM Member Partners based on ASEM's three pillars of cooperation, which are the political, economic and socio-cultural pillars.

 

YB Deputy Foreign Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Ireland, Sweden and Italy, to discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest.
