YBHG. TAN SRI DR. JEMILAH MAHMOOD WINS THE ASEAN PRIZE 2019

 

YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, Founder of MERCY Malaysia, has been selected as the winner of the ASEAN Prize 2019 in recognition of her leading role in various humanitarian missions and disaster management in the ASEAN region. She is the first Malaysian to receive the ASEAN Prize.

 

The award ceremony of ASEAN Prize will be held during the Opening Ceremony of the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on 3 November 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. All ASEAN Heads of State / Government, including the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will attend the Opening Ceremony.

 

YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood will receive the ASEAN Prize Trophy and a cash prize of USD20,000 from the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, and the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi.

 

The ASEAN Prize is a prestigious regional award which aims to acknowledge the inspiring and outstanding achievements of an individual or organisation in fostering the ASEAN identity, promoting the ASEAN spirit and championing the ASEAN way.

 

In 2018, the inaugural ASEAN Prize was awarded to Ms Erlinda Uy Koe from the Philippines, former Chair of the ASEAN Autism Network (AAN), for her work and dedication to improve the lives of autistic adults and children, contributing towards an inclusive ASEAN Community.
