TRUCK RAMS INTO CROWD IN BERLIN, 19 DECEMBER 2016
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that no Malaysians were involved in the truck ramming incident in Berlin, Germany on 19 December 2016. In the incident, reports state that the driver of a tractor trailer had crashed into a Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz Square, Kurfuerstendamm Avenue in west Berlin, Germany. The German authorities have stated that 12 people were killed and around 50 others were injured. The suspect, believed to be the lorry driver, has been arrested near the scene after initially fleeing the area.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt are in close contact with the local authorities and have provided timely updates to the Malaysian community in the city over the incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of the incident.
