PROFILE OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

 

 

YB DATO’ SERI HISHAMMUDDIN TUN HUSSEIN

 

YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia on 9 March 2020. He is a Member of Parliament for Sembrong, Johor.

 

YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin was born in 1961. Together with his spouse YM Datin Seri Tengku Marsilla Tengku Abdullah, they are blessed with four children.

 

YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has a Masters of Law (LL.M) in Commercial and Corporate Law from the London School of Economics (1988) and was a practicing lawyer before he started his career in politics. He also holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom.

 

Prior to his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein held a number of prominent Cabinet posts as follows:

 

  • Minister with Special Functions in the Prime Minister’s Department (2017-2018)
  • Minister of Defense (2013-2018)
  • Acting Minister of Transport (2013-2014)
  • Minister of Home Affairs (2009-2013)
  • Minister of Education (2004-2009)
  • Minister of Youth and Sports (1999-2004)

 

He was also the Deputy Minister of Primary Industries (1997-1999) and the Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of International Trade and Industry (1995-1997).
